• The Writer's Center: "The Writer's Center is a literary crossroads designed to encourage the creation and distribution of contemporary literature. To support these goals we offer a host of interrelated programs and services including: workshops in all genre, a gallery of books and journals, readings and conferences, publications, desktop publishing center, meeting and workspace, and information and communications center. We welcome all genres and levels of skill as well as the other arts." .
• Virginia Center for the Creative Arts: "The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts is a working retreat for writers, visual artists, and composers. It is located at Mt. San Angelo, a 450 acre estate in Amherst County, Virginia, approximately 160 miles southwest of Washington D.C. The VCCA provides residential Fellowships of two weeks to two months in a rural setting where artists may work, free from the distractions and responsibilities of day-to-day life."
• John Daniel & Co. Publishers: "Founded in 1985 in Santa Barbara, California, John Daniel and Company is a small-press publisher of belles lettres. We publish about four books a year, usually in the areas of short fiction, poetry, memoir, and essay."
• Washington Independent Writers: "Washington Independent Writers (WIW) is the largest regional writer's organization in the country. • Women's National Book Association: "Founded in 1917, the Women's National Book Association (WNBA) is a national nonprofit professional association of women and men who work with and value books. WNBA/Washington, a chapter since 1978, promotes reading and supports the role of women in the community of the book. The work of the chapter is carried out entirely by volunteers and under the direction of a Board of Directors."
• The Modern Language Association: "Founded in 1883, the Modern Language Association of America provides opportunities for its members to share their scholarly findings and teaching experiences with colleagues and to discuss trends in the academy. MLA members host an annual convention and other meetings, work with related organizations, and sustain one of the finest publishing programs in the humanities. For over a hundred years, members have worked to strengthen the study and teaching of language and literature."
